Called to Live with Integrity

Integrity is a general word, not a church word, necessarily. We use it when we say someone is authentic. Or “What you see is what you get.” There is consistency with the person’s words and actions.

In our walk to be Christ-like, integrity is important. What we do on the outside matches who we are on the inside. I read this description of integrity recently. “Integrity is not merely an external adherence to rules but a reflection of one’s inner character and relationship with God. It involves consistency between one’s beliefs and actions, aligning one’s life with God’s standards. Integrity is essential for a faithful witness to the world, as it reflects the transformative power of the Gospel in a follower’s life.”

In scripture when we read about wholeness and truthfulness:

Wholeness:  Having an undivided heart that is fully loyal to God instead of splitting life into separate religious and secular parts.

Honesty:  Telling the truth and keeping your promises, letting your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no.

People of God are called to live with integrity. What we profess on Sunday, we live in our daily public and private lives.

The gospel of Jesus Christ steps on my toes sometimes, but that is just part of the work of sanctification. Sanctification is the process by which the Holy Spirit keeps helping to correct us and help us grow. The goal of sanctification is to help us be more Christ-like in character, speech, and values. Growth can cause growing pains. So, if you ever feel discomfort or unsettledness maybe the Lord is teaching you something new.

Another way of saying that is integrity. When we profess with our lips, we mean in our hearts. Our words and actions will match the inner calling to be like Christ. So many of you demonstrate this kind of integrity to me in your faithfulness. God uses us to show the world something of who God in Jesus Christ is. So, do not grow weary and keep up the good work.
