Services and Worship

Our Services
Fort Hill Presbyterian Church celebrates two services of worship on most Sunday mornings during the year. Occasionally there are Sundays of special purpose where only one worship service is scheduled, typically at 10:45 a.m. These changes are publicized here on this website when they are scheduled. A regular change in worship times happens during the summer season, from late May/first of June through mid-August, when we celebrate one service for the Lord’s Day on Sundays at 10:00 a.m.

Special Services
We follow the church calendar year beginning with Advent as we prepare for the birth of our Lord Jesus.
The Christmas Service of Lessons and Carols is presented in Advent as one Sunday worship service.
Angel Vespers Service is a Wednesday evening service in Advent led by our Children that tells the Christmas story.

Two Christmas Eve Candlelight Services are held on December 24th; a Family-Friendly (children included) Service at 5:00 p.m. in our Sanctuary and a Christmas Eve Communion Service at 9:00 p.m. in our Sanctuary.

An Ash Wednesday service is held each year as we begin Lent—a season of self-reflection and spiritual growth in following Jesus toward Jerusalem, the cross, and his rising from death to new life. We gather in worship to have the ashes placed on our foreheads. We are mortal and seek to live our lives as those who are prepared to die.
A Maundy Thursday worship service is held the Thursday night before Easter Sunday. This is the night when Jesus shared a supper with his friends, the disciples, and foretold of his death as he was led away and arrested. As Jesus is led to the cross, we remember that it is in this act of self-giving love of Jesus, the Son of God, that we have salvation and new life through his death and resurrection.
An Easter Sunrise worship service is held at the Old Stone Church Cemetery on Hwy. 76 and Old Stone Church Road in Clemson. The time varies according to the sunrise, usually around 7:00 a.m.
A Thanksgiving Worship Service is held at 10:00 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning at the Old Stone Church Meeting House located at the corner of Hwy. 76 and Old Stone Church Road. Together we worship and praise God for the abundance of gifts God has shared with us.
“Marriage is a gift God has given to all humankind for the well‐being of the entire human family.” (Book of Order, W-4.0601)
Your wedding ceremony is a worship service in which God’s blessing and presence in your life together is joyfully acknowledged and your commitment to each other is celebrated. The covenant of marriage brings significant changes in your lives and marks the beginning of a new spiritual adventure. The pastor who performs the ceremony will counsel you prior to the rehearsal. These sessions will help you to prepare yourselves for marriage.
Those who are an active part of our fellowship are welcome to hold a wedding ceremony in our Sanctuary. You must seek the approval of the Pastor and Session. The Wedding Guild of the Worship Ministry assists in the planning and directing of the worship service. May God’s richest blessings be known to all who prepare for this most meaningful event in your lives.
“In the face of death, we affirm with tears and joy the good news of the gospel and the hope of the resurrection.” (Book of Order, W-0701)
We hold Memorial services and funerals for members of our fellowship.
The Columbarium and Memorial Garden of Fort Hill Presbyterian Church is available to members who wish to have their remains placed here. A plaque is prepared for each person, and there is also a wall of plaques to remember those who have donated their bodies to science as a way to serve humanity. Please contact the Church Office regarding arrangements.
A service that celebrates the Scottish religious heritage of the Presbyterian Church and remembers and gives thanks for the good people God has placed in our lives along with those newly born into the faith through Baptism.
